Costumes & Dance Shoes

RECITAL COSTUMES

Costumes and tights will be given to students with all accounts paid in full in early June (dates will vary depending on photo shoot participation).

You will not receive costumes unless your account balance is $0.

Once the costumes leave the studio you are responsible for it so, please keep them in a safe place. With just a few weeks before the recital if a costume is lost or damaged, we won’t be able to replace it.

Costumes should be removed from the garment bag and steamed (do not iron) prior to the recital.

We will schedule dates in May and June to take care of any needed alterations (included in your recital fee).

We do not send accessories home. Our staff will put them on the dancers backstage, and they’ll be yours to keep after the show.

DANCE SHOES

Detailed shoe requirements can be found in the studio handbook.

Please contact Miss Casey if your dancer needs to order new shoes before the recital.

Hip-hop classes have received their specific shoe assignments via email.

Click here to view our Dress Rehearsal Info Packet

Location: Ambridge Area High School, 901 Duss Ave, Ambridge, PA 15003

In an effort to get everyone in and out as quickly as possible, the dress rehearsal will be scheduled by class; we will not run the show in order.

The dress rehearsal schedule can be viewed here.

The stage rehearsal start time is when they are on stage, if you arrive at this time, you are late. Specific arrival times are listed to ensure everyone is dressed, has accessories, and is lined up backstage ready to go for the start of the rehearsal time.

We have a tight schedule to keep, so it is essential that all dancers arrive on time.

Please do not be late.

Dress Rehearsal Reminders-

  • All students must attend

  • Bring all costumes, dance shoes, batons and a spill-proof water bottle

  • EVERYTHING should be labeled with the dancer’s name.

  • Arrive during your designated arrival time (or earlier)

  • Younger dancers must be accompanied by a parent or chaperone

  • Dancers are limited to 3 adults max at dress rehearsal.

    • Please do not bring siblings that aren’t in the show

  • Cameras are welcome, this is the perfect photo op

  • Food, drinks and gum are not permitted in the auditorium

  • Smoking is not permitted on school property

  • No roaming the halls; please stay in the auditorium area

  • Make a checklist and use it; take home everything you brought with you

    • Remember: We will hold onto all accessories and batons at dress rehearsal. We will also collect dance shoes for Pre‑K, Beg, and Int dancers so these items will already be backstage on show day.

Recital Day-of Info

Arrival Times

12:30pm Show

Dancers must arrive and be signed in between 11:30-11:45am

6:00pm Show

Dancers must arrive and be signed in between 5:00-5:15pm

Dancer Check-In

Each Pre‑K, Beginner, and Intermediate dancer will receive one “backstage” pass when you sign them in for a parent/guardian to use after the show.

To keep all dancers safe, parents will not be permitted backstage, and dancers must stay in the backstage area for the entire performance. Our staff will not release any dancer until the show is completely over.

Once your dancer is checked in, they will remain under the care and supervision of our team until you check them out at the end of the show.

Dancer Pick-up

Pre‑K, Beginner, and Intermediate dancers will return to their dressing rooms after the curtain call. A parent or guardian with the assigned “backstage pass” may pick them up from their dressing room. Only one adult should go backstage for pick‑up.

Dancers who are in only one show will not change out of their costume after the finale. Our volunteers will have all costumes, shoes, accessories, and other items packed up and ready, this is where the laundry basket is a lifesaver. These dancers will leave in costume and can change in the lobby restrooms if needed.

Recital Packing List for Dancers

  • All costume pieces

  • Spill‑proof water bottle

    • Please no Stanleys with straws

  • Change of clothes if your dancer is in both shows (Dancers in one show only will arrive and leave wearing their costume.)

  • If your dancer is newly potty trained or still has occasional accidents, please pack a pull‑up (or two) for backstage.

  • Remember: We hold onto all dance shoes and accessories for Pre‑K, Beginner, and Intermediate dancers, plus all batons, at dress rehearsal—these items will already be backstage.

  • EVERYTHING should be labeled with your dancer’s name.

What Dancers Should Wear to the Show

  • Nude tights

  • First costume

  • Slip‑on sandals (Crocs, slides, etc)

  • Hair pulled back from the face so headpieces can be pinned easily

  • Optional makeup: a light amount of blush, eye shadow, and lipstick. Please apply makeup at home, no makeup should be sent backstage with younger dancers.

What Dancers Should Not Wear

  • Jewelry

  • Bright or bold nail polish

  • Regular underwear

    • Because tights are worn under every costume and include a liner, they act as underwear. If your dancer truly needs underwear, please choose a high‑leg, bikini style in solid nude so nothing shows under the costume. If a bra is needed, make sure it is nude and that no straps are visible once the costume is on.

Backstage Entertainment

To help keep dancers calm, occupied, and happy backstage, you are welcome to send small items that will keep them entertained, tablets, coloring books (we have crayons), handheld games, etc.

Any devices sent must be labeled with your name. Our backstage staff will make sure everyone uses items respectfully and that there’s no arguing over devices.

This option has worked well in the past and helps maintain a quiet, relaxed backstage environment for our younger dancers.

Reminders for Audience Members

  • Arrive Early

    • Arrive at least 15-20 minutes before the recital begins to ensure you’re seated before the performance starts.

  • Silence Your Devices and refrain from using them during the show.

  • No Taking Videos or Flash Photography

    • All families will receive a copy of the recital filmed by our professional videographer. You are welcome to take photos and video at dress rehearsal.

  • No Late Arrivals

    • If you arrive after the performance has started, please wait until between dances before entering the theater to avoid disrupting others.

  • Limit Movement in the Aisles

    • If you need to get up, do so quietly and quickly to minimize disruption to other audience members. Try to move only when there is no performance happening.

  • No Eating or Drinking

  • Be Considerate of Other Audience Members

  • Avoid Talking During the Performance

    • Babies and small children may cry, and that’s completely understandable. However, it’s important to recognize that their noise can be distracting to the dancers and audience. Parents are encouraged to be mindful and take appropriate action if this occurs.

  • Support the Dancers

    • Show your appreciation with generous applause, the kids have worked very hard and deserve it.

  • Enjoy the Show!

    • Most importantly, remember that the recital is a celebration of the dancers' hard work and talent. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
